The Soldiers

(inspired by the literature trip to belgium)

This is where the soldiers lie,
Finally they may breathe a sigh,
Beneath the earth they make no sound,
If it's really their bodies underground.
'Known unto God' the gravestones say,
So all we can do is sit and pray.

The soldiers lie peacefully below,
And now it's poppies which grow,
Searching for answers which they couln't find,
Searching for some sort of peace of mind.
To know that the war is over and not forgotten,
Not letting respect go rotten.

God can only name those unnamed,
But none of them are unclaimed,
They are all loved and respected forevermore,
For everything they did within the war.
Poppies shall grow and we shall not forget,
Our future was where your hearts were set.

Youth

We shall see what time shall bring,
As the sparrows fly and sing,
Their lullabies send children into dreams,
Where nothing is really as it seems.
You and I both know that is the truth,
Whilst we avoid this corrupt youth,
Children wish to grow up too soon,
They wish life to move on like the moon.

We shall see what time shall bring,
Lets not strain the breaking string,
It holds our lives along side each other,
Just like a baby and its mother.
What happens if that sting was to break,
All their relationship such a mistake,
For we cannot let our youth fall apart,
We must take it back to the start.

We shall see what time shall bring,
Misuse and mistakes over everything,
Empty bottles on the floor,
Peoples emotions are shot for sure.
Vodka isn't something youths should guzzle,
It won't answer this undying puzzle,
This word should not be feared alone,
For shortly it will become outgrown.
